On Thursday 28th February, the Year 7 leaders attended the GRIP Leadership Conference with Mrs Irvine and Chappy Hayden. Students participated in challenges that taught us that to succeed you need to work together which is a main element in leadership. One of these challenges was to play as many games of Noughts and Crosses as we could in one minute. Initially we focussed on winning and not the actual challenge, which was to play the most games, not to win. When we played again we worked together and improved our scores.
We also learnt about an old song called 'Heads, Shoulders, Knees and Toes' and applied it to leadership. Heads - think of others, Shoulders - carry the load for others, Knees - Move forward, and Toes - Balance responsibilities.
After morning tea we learnt about different ways of leading. The three main ways we learnt were: Firefighter - by actively doing a task, Police Officer - someone who gives good instructions to others, and Ambulance Officer - caring for others.
We all had a great time and would love to do it again. I learnt heaps and had fun at the same time. I would like to thank the people that made this amazing experience possible for me and the other school leaders.
