NAPLAN Online 2022

March 11th 2022

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) will be undertaken at Springfield Lakes State School by students in Year 3 and 5 in 2022. NAPLAN tests are conducted nationally and align to the Australian Curriculum in English and Mathematics. They are implemented to assess students' knowledge and understanding in the areas of numeracy, reading, writing and conventions of language.

This year, NAPLAN tests will be undertaken using the online platform and will take place between Tuesday 10th May and Friday 20th May. Writing, for Year 3 students, will still be completed in paper format. Students will also participate in practice tests later this term which will provide them with the opportunity to engage with the online platform prior to the actual tests being administered in May.

The transition to NAPLAN online has many benefits for our students which include:

  • Increased engagement of students through the use of technology
  • An increased timeframe in which to undertake the tests
  • A tailored test design which is responsive to student answers

Students will access the tests using school laptops. One of the features of the writing, numeracy and conventions of language tests is that students can access audio support. Please ensure that your child has their headphones in school for the tests.

Students with a disability may qualify for adjustments in the tests that reflect the support that they normally receive in the classroom. Students with a significant intellectual disability may be granted a formal exemption. If your child is eligible for special provisions in the tests, you will be contacted by a member of staff.

The very best support that can be provided to children during the NAPLAN testing period is to keep them calm and positive and not to put pressure on them in relation to future tests or their performance in the tests. We encourage students to have a full night's sleep and to eat a healthy breakfast for the day!

If you would like further information about the NAPLAN tests, please do not hesitate to contact your child's class teacher. You can also access information relating to the tests through the NAPLAN website:

If you would like to know more about the format of the tests, please access the demonstration tests on the NAPLAN Public Demonstration Site

Kind Regards,

Joanne McCormack
