Week 1 Procedure

Springfield Lakes State School BYOD Trial

We are excited to inform you that Springfield Lakes State School is going to trial a Bring-Your-Own-Device program with our Year 3 students in 2024. We anticipate that following the trial, the program will be extended to other year levels, allowing your child to continue to participate in the program throughout their time at Springfield Lakes State School. After much research and liaising with the school community, iPads have been selected as the device that will underpin the program.

The Department of Education's 'Equity and Excellence' vision, which sets out the strategic direction of the Education Department identifies digital innovation in teaching and learning as a priority with a focus on connecting all students to digital learning opportunities through access to devices and technologies.

Our Bring-Your-Own-iPad program aims to enhance our Year 3 students' digital skills and prepare them for a digitally enabled future. iPads allow students not only to be consumers of the wealth of digital knowledge and information available to them, but more importantly, their functions enable students to be creators in their learning journey.

Year 3 parents and caregivers are invited to provide their child with an iPad, with the specifications in the table below, to use as part of teaching and learning activities in 2024. Teaching and learning in all classes will be a combination of digital and more traditional ways of working, with teachers selecting the most appropriate method for the learning activity being undertaken.

Our Year 3 classes will have additional school purchased iPads for use by students who do not have their own iPad. This is termed as a blended model and will allow students who do not have their own devices to have access to a device, as part of a small group, for those teaching and learning activities that cannot be undertaken in a more traditional way.

For those students who opt to be part of the program, the Apple iPad provided must support the newest iPadOS (currently (2023) iPadOS 17.0). Over ear headphones with microphone that connects to the device is required, as is a protective case (waterproof case is recommended, but not required). There will also be Apps that will need to be purchased.

Setting Up Your iPad

The following steps can be completed from home.

We use the Department of Education Bring Your Own (BYO) device solution called “BYOx Link" (Microsoft Intune) that enables students to use their privately owned devices to access school email, learning applications at the school. This allows us to make thing much simpler for our families to access and download Apps and the profiles needed to access the EQ Wi-Fi networks and email.

What You Need:

After completing the initial set up of the iPad (including Apple ID, passcode, wallpaper and lock screen), you will need to do the following:

  1. Open the App Store
  2. Search for 'Intune'
  3. Download the 'Intune Company Portal'
  4. Once the App has been downloaded, follow the “Intune- iOS Enrolment Video"

You will need to use the students' school username and password.
