Bring-Your-Own-iPad Program at Springfield Lakes State School
We are excited to inform you that Springfield Lakes State School is going to continue with our Bring-Your-Own-Device program, with our Year 3s, Year 4s and Year 5s taking part. We have seen great achievements and enhancements to learning following our iPad trial in 2024, and we want to continue and build upon these successes into the future.
The Department of Education's 'Equity and Excellence' vision, which sets out the strategic direction of the Education Department identifies digital innovation in teaching and learning as a priority with a focus on connecting all students to digital learning opportunities through access to devices and technologies.
At Springfield Lakes State School, we are embedding technology to break down barriers to learning, empowering every student to become a responsible, digitally literate citizen.
Year 3 , 4 and 5 parents and caregivers are invited to provide their child with an iPad, with the specifications in the table below, to use as part of teaching and learning activities in 2026. Teaching and learning in all classes will be a combination of digital and more traditional ways of working, with teachers selecting the most appropriate method for the learning activity being undertaken.
Year 3 , 4 and 5 classes will have additional school purchased iPads for use by students who do not have their own iPad. This is termed as a one to one model and will allow students who do not have their own iPad to have access to a device for those teaching and learning activities that cannot be undertaken in a more traditional way. These iPads remain at school for students to access.
For those students who choose to be part of the program, the Apple iPad provided must:
- Support the newest iPadOS (currently iPadOS 26 (Sept, 2025), see minimum specification below).

- A protective case (waterproof case is recommended, but not required).

- Over ear headphones with microphone that connects to the device is required
Please note that 10th and 11th Generation iPads do not have a headphone socket.
Because of this, students using these models will need one of the following headset options:
- 🎧 A USB-C headset (connects directly to the iPad), or
- 🎧 A standard 3.5mm headset used with a USB-C to headphone jack adapter (dongle).
If your child is bringing their own iPad, they may use any headset that is compatible with their device.

Note - All iPads must be 64GB or above to support School Software and future updates.

Setting Up Your iPad
The following steps can be completed from home.
We use the Department of Education Bring Your Own (BYO) device solution called “BYOx Link" (Microsoft Intune) that enables students to use their privately owned devices to access school email, learning applications at the school. This allows us to make thing much simpler for our families to access and download Apps and the profiles needed to access the EQ Wi-Fi networks and email.
What You Need:
After completing the initial set up of the iPad (including Apple ID, passcode, wallpaper and lock screen), you will need to do the following:
- Open the App Store
- Search for 'Intune'
- Download the 'Intune Company Portal'
- Once the App has been downloaded, follow the “Intune- iOS Enrolment Video"
You will need to use the students' school username and password.
